Surely you've noticed that
when you come home from a long trip or vacation that your digital clock showing
the wrong time? In most cases, this is a result of the blackout.
When the lack of energy,
for several days unfortunately it, can cause thawing of food and its
deterioration. Hence, when the electricity comes back, refreeze food and often
no way to notice this. To make matters worse, this can be very dangerous,
because certain foods are known to spread salmonella and other bacteria.
Luckily, there is a very useful trick that can help you find out how long were your fridge and freezer without electricity. For this purpose, you’ll need a cup, a coin, and some water. Pour the water in the cup and put it in the freezer. When the water has frozen, put the coin on top of it and put it back into the freezer.
The next time you come home
after being away for a longer period of time, before eating the food from the
freezer, check to see where the coin is. Namely, if it’s still at the top of
the cup or in the middle, there was probably no power shortage or there was
one, but it lasted briefly. However, if the coin is at the bottom or near the
bottom, it means that the blackout lasted longer. In this case, don’t consume
the food in the freezer and fridge.
